Chelsea Vs. Barcelona, 2012 UEFA Champions League: Cesc Fabregas Misses Golden Chance

Stay connected with SB Nation

Things aren't looking good for Chelsea at the moment. With 17 minutes gone in the first half, Barcelona are starting to find their groove and create clear-cut chances. In the 17th minute they had their best chance of the night -- even better than Alexis Sanchez's crossbar hit -- but managed to not convert. Cesc Fabregas should have put his team 1-0 up, but instead is left wondering how he didn't score.

Lionel Messi created the chance with a dazzling run. He played the ball wide to Adriano, who crossed into Iniesta. Petr Cech made a good save on Iniesta's shot, but the ball fell directly to Fabregas. With the goal at his mercy, Cesc completely missed his shot, hitting his teammate Alexis Sanchez wide of the goal when it was much easier to score.

Barcelona's finishing has been some combination of poor and unlucky, but in any event, Chelsea don't look good and it seems like a good bet that they will concede shortly.
