"You're not fit to wear the shirt." A common chant from football fans, but on Sunday afternoon, Genoa Ultras took those words even further. With their side down 4-0 to visiting Siena after just 53 minutes, the Ultras set off fireworks and blocked the entrance to the players' tunnel. A visit by captain Marco Rossi revealed the leaders' demands -- the players must give up their kits.
Which, alarmingly enough, they did:
All except for Giuseppe Sculli. The grandson of a 'Ndrangheta boss, Beppe spoke to the Ultras himself, insisting he was giving his all for the club. After tears and an emotional hug, the shirts were sorted and pulled on, and play allowed to continue.
