When Chelsea brought Fernando Torres into the match, it might as well have been for defense. The Blues were down to 10 men and Barcelona were pouring on the pressure as Chelsea clung to a 2-2 aggregate draw that would have seen them through on away goals. Torres' play was even 100% defensive to start, falling even with the defense and holding the line as the Catalans scored, only to have it disallowed for offside. Clearly the best way to keep the ball from going in the net was to put Torres in front of it.
Then, this happened: He scored a goal. He did it for Chelsea. He did it for a 10-man team. He did it at the Camp Nou. He did it to book a spot in the Champions League final. The world broke.
Just to be sure, we checked to confirm that really happened. Scientists have confirmed that it really did. Torres scored the £50 million goal. Science.
