Jalil Anibaba issued red card, Frank Klopas 'dismissed' following Fire's game against the Sounders on Saturday.
The fallout from Saturday's postgame fracas between the Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire has begun with the revelation that Jalil Anibaba and Frank Klopas will both be suspended at least one game. Although it did not appear in the official postgame stat sheet, Anibaba was issued a red card and Klopas was "dismissed" at the end of the game. Those come with automatic one-game suspensions.
What, exactly, either did to earn those punishments was not immediately apparent. The most obvious explanation would be that Anibaba was issued a red card for his challenge of Leo Gonzalez that came right after the whistle blew. Klopas' dismissal is less obvious, but there are pictures of him that appear to show him in a heated conversation with the fourth official.
There is, of course, still the possibility that more punishments will be forthcoming from the MLS Disciplinary Committee. If any Sounders are to be punished, it would like be announced on Tuesday as they play the LA Galaxy on Wednesday. The Fire's next game is on Friday against Chivas USA.
