Sporting Kansas City Vs. LA Galaxy, 2012 MLS: Kei Kamara Has SKC Up At Half

Stay connected with SB Nation

Through 45 minutes, the match between Sporting Kansas City and the LA Galaxy has gone pretty much as expected. Without David Beckham, LA has had problems controlling the middle of the park, while Kansas City have been very dangerous going forward with their pace. Most expected, Sporting lead, 1-0.

It took 40 minutes for Kansas City to break the deadlock. Bobby Convey got the ball on the right and cut in. Kei Kamara made a run in behind the LA defense and timed it perfectly, catching Sean Franklin trying to play an offside trap. That left Kamara in all alone to nod the ball past Josh Saunders and give the home side the lead.

While Sporting were the better side, LA was not without chances and their best ones came through Mike Magee. A perfectly weighted pass from Robbie Keane put Magee in alone on goal early, but when his chip over the on-rushing Jimmy Nielsen skipped wide of the bar. Just before the half he let a shot go from distance and while he hit it well, it just missed the goal and Sporting kept their lead.
