Serie A 2012, Week 36 Preview And Fixtures: Sorry Italy, You Only Get Three Champions League Places

Currently, there are more clubs battling for a Champions League position than Italy has allotments in both European tournaments. Something's got to give -- will it be this week?

No, the scudetto hasn't been awarded yet. Yes, technically Milan could still steal it from Juventus. But unless relegation-dwelling Lecce come up with some sort of miracle against the Old Lady in Turin, that ain't gonna happen. So, once again, all eyes are on third place.

The third and last Champions League position is currently occupied by four clubs: Lazio, Napoli, Udinese and Inter. Lazio and Udinese both seem to be doing their best to lose out on a trip to the tournament. Napoli are up one week, down the next -- a club worn out by Europe this season, and struggling to find a few new ideas. Inter, on the other hand, are suddenly back in the race, after spending most of the year much closer to the bottom than the top. But the nerazzurri always seem to find a way to worm their way back in, and are unbeaten in their last five matches. However, they face the toughest competition midweek -- Parma have won five of their last six, and Tommaso Ghirardi believes his club have a chance at the last Europa League position.

That's only if a couple teams take a tumble, though...
