Wilman Conde's return to MLS has not exactly gone according to plan. The New York Red Bulls center back, who has missed the last six games with an injury, was arrested early Saturday morning for "aggravated assault on a police officer," according to NorthJersey.com. He was eventually released.
Police reportedly came to Conde's apartment because of a noise complaint. As they tried to identify a female guest, Conde reportedly pushed the police officer. The police report described Conde as "drunk and belligerent."
What this means for Conde's status with the Red Bulls is unknown. It's quite possible that he'll be suspended, but he doesn't appear ready to return from his groin injury, anyway. Conde came to the Red Bulls, after his rights were acquired in an offseason trade.
Somewhat surprisingly, the Red Bulls might not be dying to get him back anyway. Their patchwork defense has posted shutouts in each of the past three matches, which were actually their first three shutouts of the season.
