Nearly two weeks after news first broke that goalkeeper Josh Saunders had entered the league's substance-abuse treatment program and would be out indefinitely, the LA Galaxy confirmed the news with a statement sent out to reporters.
"Josh Saunders is currently in the league's Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health program and will remain unavailable for the club indefinitely. That program is administered by medical professionals appointed jointly by the league and the Players Union. Those medical professionals independently evaluate, treat, and determine the length of time that he will be in the program. The team does not control it."
Saunders has missed the Galaxy's past four matches, with LA going 0-2-2. Bill Gaudette has received the start in all of those matches as Brian Perk has been recovering from a hernia surgery. Perk could return to action soon, but it's unclear if he would displace Gaudette, who has only given up five goals in that time.
