Union coach Peter Nowak confirms that veteran center back Danny Califf has been traded to Chivas USA, but that details are still being worked out.

Danny Califf's time with the Philadelphia Union is over. The club traded one of its last remaining original members today to Chivas USA in exchange for a "player and something else," coach Peter Nowak confirmed at his Wednesday press conference. Nowak indicated that details of the deal are still being finalized.

Reports of this deal had been circulating all weekend between the two camps.

Nowak did say that the trade was not the rumored deal that would also said Jack McInerney and Califf to Chivas USA in exchange for Juan Pablo Angel, but there were no indications who that player may actually be or what else may be heading to the Union. That would leave McInerney, Danny Mwanga, Amobi Okugo and Sheanon Williams as the only players remaining from the Union's roster from their inaugural season. Only Mwanga started more than eight games that year.

By getting rid of Califf, Nowak has essentially cleaned out his roster of veteran players who have been with the team for more than a season.

Califf and Nowak had been at odds for much of the season. At one point, Nowak said Califf was not playing because of an injury, but Califf claimed he was healthy. Califf has played just four games this season and continues to show up on the injury report, but Brotherly Game has reported that was more as cover.

The trade reunites Chivas USA coach Robin Fraser and Califf, who were teammates on the LA Galaxy in 2000. It also gives Chivas USA another veteran center back, although one who is among the more highly compensated ones in MLS.
