As much as the fortunes of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC have differed this year, there's surely at least a fair amount of trepidation for Whitecaps fans heading into the first leg of their Canadian Championship final. The Whitecaps have, of course, enjoyed a rather impressive turnaround from a season ago. Coming off a year that was among the worst in MLS history, they already have 17 points and are just one win away from equaling their total of a season ago.
Toronto FC, meanwhile, is enjoying what is currently on pace to be THE worst season in MLS history. As has been well documented, they are 0-8-0 on the MLS season.
While it would be tempting for Whitecaps fans to be very confident heading into tonight's game at BC Place, the guys at 86 Forever are understandably a little wary of being overconfident. Toronto FC has, after all, won the last three Voyageurs Cups despite never having a particularly good team.
They have this witchcraft like control of the Voyageurs Cup at the moment. They stink out the joint in league play, finding new and exciting ways to lose matches that they deserve a point in, and have all but disenfranchised their significant season ticket base.
Waking the Red is, naturally, well aware of all of this and is perfectly happy to point it out:
... hey TFC are clearly saving it for the cup games this year, and maybe they're just playing a really long game to absolutely perfectly troll Vancouver fans once again. We've already done the ridiculous win against the 'surrender monkeys' B team, and a lightning related abandonment and win the replay, what other ways are there to really drive Whitecaps fans nuts?
It should, at least, be interesting.
