San Jose Earthquakes Vs. D.C. United, 2012 MLS: Quakes Win 5-3 Shootout

Nobody can stop Chris Wondolowski right now. So the San Jose Earthquakes defense falls apart. Big deal. Wondo will save them. The Quakes striker scored another brace on Wednesday night, pushing his goal total to 10 leading his team to a 5-3 win over D.C. United.

Dwayne De Rosario actually struck first in the match and got D.C. off to a flying start just eight minutes in, but it wouldn't be enough. That's because Steven Lenahrt answered 11 minutes later and two minutes after that, Wondolowski got his first. The Quakes still kept coming, getting a score from Justin Morrow to put them 3-1 up at halftime.

Just after the hour mark, Daniel Woolard scored for D.C. bringing them to within a goal and putting the match back in the balance. It put the pressure on the Quakes, who were hoping to keep their lead atop the Western Conference and when the pressure was on, Wondolowski stepped up. He found his second goal of the game just five minutes after D.C. cut San Jose's lead to one and the home side were back up two.

Lenhart put the capper on things with his second goal of the match, making Hamdi Salihi's 88th minute tally largely insignificant. Once again, the Quakes were winners and their spot atop the conference was safe.

Seattle Sounders Vs. LA Galaxy, 2012 MLS: Sounders Take It To Half-Strength Galaxy

The LA Galaxy did not send David Beckham or Robbie Keane to Seattle and were playing a half-strength squad, but the Seattle Sounders don't care. They had been unable to crack the Galaxy, seemingly hexed by them, but that hex was broken on Wednesday. Seattle pounded LA much worse than the 2-0 scoreline would indicate to take a very convincing three points and move into third place in the Western Conference.

The Sounders were on the front foot from the very beginning. Fredy Montero should have scored early on, but with an entire goal to aim at, he hit it right at Bill Gaudette. Seattle's consistent pressure finally did pay off when Eddie Johnson got on the end of a Mauro Rosales cross. Gaudette misread the bounce off the turf and the ball skipped by him as Johnson picked up his second goal in as many matches and Seattle went a goal up.

The highlight of the match came after halftime when Montero notched his first point of the season and he did it in a big way. Given time 30 yards from goal, Montero hit an absolute belter. He could not have hit his shot any better and it flew past Gaudette and into the upper corner for what will surely be the league goal of the week.

Starting Bryan Jordan, Bryan Gaul, Adam Cristman, Chad Barrett and Marcelo Sarvas, LA was clearly not putting their all into the match and they got exactly what they deserved. Seattle thumped them and the scoreline was actually very flattering to them.

Seattle Sounders Vs. LA Galaxy, 2012 MLS: Eddie Johnson Gives Sounders 1-0 Lead At Half

Eddie Johnson is slowly starting to look like his old self. The Seattle Sounders forward scored his second goal in as many games, this one a snap-header off a Mauro Rosales feed that sent his team into halftime with a 1-0 lead over the LA Galaxy on Wednesday.

Johnson's goal was especially important from a psychological perspective, as it gave the Sounders their first lead over the Galaxy in a MLS match since 2009. Even including their two U.S. Open Cup victories, the Sounders have gone just 3-5-2 against the Galaxy all-time.

Johnson's goal also allowed Fredy Montero's rough first half to be more easily forgotten. Montero missed two shots from close range, one from basically point blank in which he hit his shot right at a helpless Bill Gaudette, and was flagged for offside, negating an earlier goal. Montero has yet to register a point heading into the second half of his seventh game this year.

New England Revolution Vs. Colorado Rapids, 2012 MLS: Saer Sene Leads Revs To Win

The New England Revolution snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday. Forward Saer Sene was the star of the game, scoring a goal and assisting on Fernando Cardenas' goal.

Jaime Castrillon gave the Rapids an early lead when he was able to get his head on the end of a Martin Rivero corner kick in the 21st minute. It was Castrillon's second goal of the season and gave Rivero his first career MLS assist.

The Revolution struck back quickly, though. Sene equalized in the 27th minute, bagging his third goal of the season on a well-taken volley. The goal was made possible because Stephen McCarthy won a header near the endline and sent it back to Sene about 10 yards out.

Cardenas gave the Revolution their first lead when he deftly chipped Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens from the edge of the penalty area in the 39th minute. Sene set up the goal with a nicely weighted pass.

That proved to be plenty as Matt Reis made six saves to pick up the win.

The Rapids continued their roller-coaster season, losing to one of the league's worst teams a few days after beating Chivas USA 4-0.
