The race for fourth place in La Liga will go down to the final day of the season, thanks to Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid side. Malaga scored in the first half and were on top for much of the game, but Atletico put together a fantastic performance in the final 30 minutes of the game to pull off a 2-1 win at the Vicente Calderon.
Malaga's game-opening goal was an absolute stunner. Eliseu was the scorer, netting an outstanding volley from 35 yards out. Following a free kick, Isco had a shot blocked by an Atletico Madrid defender and the ball popped up in the air and out of the penalty area. The ball fell to Eliseu, who hit a perfect low volley with his left foot that looked like it was on a rope. Thibaut Courtois didn't have a chance to see it with all of the traffic in front of him and it zipped into the back of the net.
In surprising and similar fashion, Koke got Atletico Madrid back into the game in the 70th minute, scoring on a great volley with his right foot after a corner kick that looked eerily similar to Eliseu's goal. Malaga made two attacking substitutions in response, bringing on Ruud van Nistelrooy and Seba Fernandez, but that move backfired. Adrian scored the winner in the 80th minute, tapping in a simple finish set up by a Falcao header.
Malaga are still in fourth place, but have some work to do on the last day. They're currently on 55 points with Atleti on 53. Levante and Mallorca are both on 52. If Malaga draw and Atletico Madrid win, Simeone's side will take fourth place. The goal differential is close enough between the teams that Mallorca or Levante could easily pass Malaga.
