Klaas-Jan Huntelaar suffered a possible concussion during Schalke's friendly Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Union. The forward was injured during a collision with Philadelphia goalkeeper Chase Harrison in the 36th minute of the friendly.
The following tweet was sent by Goal.com editor Keith Hickey moments after the match ended. The match was not available on television or streaming in the United States, but Mr. Hickey was in attendance.
Confirmed: Netherlands and Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was taken to the hospital with a suspected concussion.— Keith Hickey (@usarsnl) May 10, 2012
If Huntelaar has suffered a concussion, it will be his second in only a few months. During the Netherlands friendly on February 29 against England, Huntelaar suffered a concussion after a collision with English defender Chris Smalling. Huntelaar admitted after the match that he could not even remember the play during which he was concussed.
Huntelaar is coming off of fantastic season in the Bundesliga with Schalke where he scored 29 goals and won the Golden Boot. The Netherlands were considered one of the top three or four sides heading into Euro 2012 on the back of Huntelaar and Robin Van Persie. Hopefully for the Dutch and for fans of the game, Huntelaar hasn't suffered a concussion and will be fit for this summer's tournament.
