Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. Houston Dynamo, 2012 MLS: Caps Crush Dynamo, 3-1

Remember that hapless, bumbling Vancouver Whitecaps team from last season? This year's Whitecaps are making people forget about that team FAST.

Vancouver picked up another impressive win on Sunday, 3-1 over the Houston Dynamo, but it was more than the scoreline that impressed. They were fast, organized and assured, adding a bit of creativity in a match they were always the better site in. Darren Mattocks picked up a brace and the Caps came away with three points that moved them to fourth in the Western Conference.

It took just four minutes for Vancouver to go in front as Mattocks got his first goal of the night. The rookie got on the end of a Lee Young-Pyo cross and put the ball in the upper corned to give the home side an early lead.

On the other side of halftime, Mattocks made it two, but it was Gershon Koffie's pass that was really responsible for the goal. The Ghanian hit a perfect pass with the outside of his boot that put Mattocks in all alone on goal. From there it was a simple finish for Mattocks and the Caps were 2-0 up.

Macoumba Kandji cut the Whitecaps' lead in half with seven minutes to go, but by then it was too late. Mattocks actually had a chance to make it a hat trick a minute after Kandji scored, only to see his attempt saved by Tally Hall, but Jordan Harvey did beat Tally in extra time to finish off a great match for Vancouver.
