AC Milan have rejected a €46m offer for Thiago Silva, believing there is no way to adequately replace the Brazilian defender.
Let's be honest: if someone turned up at your door offering you €46m for your wife, or your dog, or your child...you'd probably accept the money and deal with the consequences later. But AC Milan did the almost-unthinkable. They turned down €46m for Thiago Silva, wanting instead to reconcile their differences with the defender.
Thiago Silva joined the rossoneri in June 2008, and it's been said that he wants to spend the rest of his career with Milan. When the news of the potential transfer broke, abuse rained down upon the Milan front office, as though considering selling a player for nearly €50m was a crime greater than treason.
But ol' Silvio has a heart, it turns out, and now it's time for complex negotiations regarding the Brazilian's new contract. Apparently Thiago Silva does not appreciate being paid €5m per year less than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so now it's time to sweeten the pot and keep him at the San Siro.
Oh, and it seems Ibra is staying, too. Finally, someone is standing up to big money!
