Stoke City seems to be the leading contender to secure the services of Houston Dynamo centerback Geoff Cameron.

Geoff Cameron might not be long for MLS. The Houston Dynamo centerback is reportedly drawing interest from several European clubs, with the English Premier League's Stoke City even approaching the league about a possible transfer, Dynamo president Chris Cannetti acknowledged to the Houston Chronicle.

"I would say some dialogue has opened up in terms of what it might take to get it done," Canetti said. "We haven't made an official offer. They haven't made an official. I don't know how serious they are or if they're just kicking the tires. Right now there's just initial dialogue that's starting up."

Losing Cameron to Europe seems almost like a foregone conclusion at this point. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound, 26-year-old has settled in nicely as a centerback and has emerged as a regular on the United States national team. The converted midfielder has the kind of size and on-ball skills that make him especially attractive.

The Bundesliga's Schalke, who are also rumored to be interested, might be a better fit for Cameron, as they are in need of centerbacks. But Cameron sounds like he's more than willing to take his chances in the EPL.

"I wouldn't mind England," he said. "I've always wanted to play there. I'm not going to be picky. I would love England. I think just overall the soccer there and the fan experience and just everything in general would be great."
