It was Roman Pavlyuchenko versus the entire nation of the Czech Republic. That's what it looked like when he took roughly 4,039 touches at the edge of the box and the entire Czech defense watched, or tried to stop him, or snacked on some knedlíky. Whatever they were doing, they were not stopping Pavlyuchenko, who danced around before ripping a shot past Petr Cech for a great goal that capped a dominating 4-1 win for Russia.
You may recognize that Pavlyuchenko fellow from Euro 2008, when he scored three goals as Russia went all the way to the semifinals. You may have also forgotten that he existed in the last four years since he spent the bulk of it jogging around for Tottenham Hotspur, usually on the bench and occasionally on the field. Well, he's back and he's back in a big way. Just ask the Czechs, whose 10.5 million citizens just lost to Super Pav.
