It has been a rough week for David Beckham. First, he was left off the English Olympic team, denying him one more chance at glory in front of his hometown fans. He followed that up by getting upstaged on national television by the San Jose Earthquakes, a group of players he no doubt considers well beneath his station. He did manage to create two very memorable moments in the game, though.
The first was a vintage "Bend It Like Beckham" goal in which he scored from about 20 yards out. Impressive, but we've all seen it before. Here's the GIF of the free kick from Timothy Burke at Mocksession.
The other moment was actually a touch more impressive, albeit lacking any sort of class. With Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham on the ground and being addressed by the referee, Beckham launched was apparently convinced there was some unnecessary time wasting going on. He then launched a perfectly placed kick from about 25 yards out that managed hit both the referee and Bingham. Total ass move? Sure. Impressive display of skill? Absolutely. This also comes from Mocksession.
