AC Milan have confirmed the sale of Brazil defender Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain today, a move which officially completes half of the double swoop that astonished football fans around the globe on Thursday. Silva, 27, is widely regarded as one of the foremost centre halves of his generation, and his acquisition as part of a supposed €62M deal that will also see striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to the Parc des Princes.
Silva would start for any team in the world, and will shore up a defence that had looked shaky despite some major investments over the last twelve months. However, it's not entirely clear that the mercurial other half of this deal is particularly interested in moving to Ligue 1 -- persistent rumours that Ibrahimovic is demanding significantly more money than PSG have so far offered might lead to this merely being an incredible deal for one world class player rather than two.
