Former Rangers star Kenny Miller gives Whitecaps their third Designated Player.

The Vancouver Whitecaps signed Scotland international forward Kenny Miller to a Designated Player contract on Monday. Miller has spent his entire career in Europe where he has played for such clubs as Rangers, Wolverhampton, Celtic, Bursaspor and, most recently, Cardiff City.

Miller's most successful stint was with Rangers from 2008-11 when he scored 49 goals in 81 Scottish Premier League appearances. That included a 26-goal season in 2010-11. The 32-year-old has scored 187 goals during 547 club appearances and 16 goals in 60 appearances with Scotland.

"We’re delighted to bring an experienced striker like Kenny to our club," Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie said in a statement. "He has been a proven goalscorer with big clubs in Scotland and played in the England Premier League. His speed, energy, and work rate will be a valuable asset to our club, as we look to have a strong second half of the season in MLS."

This move seems to be the final piece of the puzzle in a series of moves that resulted in the Whitecaps trading Sebastien Le Toux to the New York Red Bulls for Dane Richards and allocation money.

Miller joins countryman Barry Robson as recently signed Whitecaps DPs. The Whitecaps are now one of three MLS teams with the full allotment of DPs, joining the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders.
