Romelu Lukaku has joined West Bromwich Albion from Chelsea on a season-long loan.
Romelu Lukaku spent his first season in the Premier League riding pine, but Chelsea are giving him an opportunity to get playing time elsewhere this season. West Bromwich Albion announced Friday that they have signed Lukaku on a season long loan.
West Brom had a very solid 2011-12 season, finishing in 10th place under Roy Hodgson, who left at the end of the season to take over the England national team. Peter Odemwingie has moved out to the wing and Simon Cox is rumored to be on his way out at The Hawthornes, so Shane Long is Lukaku's only real competition for regular time at striker. Long scored eight Premier League goals this season and played for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2012.
Lukaku was dominant in Belgium as a teenager and has been impressive during Chelsea's preseason friendlies this summer. He should have every chance to break into the first team at West Brom, and if he scores at the clip he did for Anderlecht, he might find a place in Chelsea's regular 18-man squad when he returns.
