Newcastle have completed the £6.2m signing of 23-year-old midfielder Vurnon Anita from Ajax, the club have confirmed.
Newcastle United have finalised the signing of Vurnon Anita from Ajax, the club have announced.
The 23-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract at the Sports Direct Arena after Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was reportedly convinced to part with a fee of £6.2m for the Dutchman.
In a statement on the club's official website, Magpies boss Pardew said: "He is an exceptionally talented footballer with great technical ability, which is exactly what I'm looking at in a player. And, at 23-years-old, we hope his best years are at Newcastle.
"He has come through the Ajax youth system which is world renowned for bringing up players the right way, and I am sure he will fit seamlessly into the squad of players we have here."
The Toon boss will be glad to complete the signing before his season-opener against Tottenham on Saturday, for which Newcastle have a swathe of key players unavailable for selection. Pardew hinted that he could feature in that game, stating: "Vurnon has done his pre-season, and indeed already played one competitive game, so he's up to speed and ready to play when I need him."
