Joe Allen starts in midfield for Liverpool, with Carroll and Cole on the bench. Romelu Lukaku is on the bench for West Brom, with Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie up front.
Liverpool travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom in a debut Premier League fixture for both managers, as Steve Clarke and Brendan Rogers both look to get off to a strong start to the season.
Liverpool have opted for a midfield three of Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard, and new signing Joe Allen, while Stewart Downing is selected ahead of Joe Cole on the wing, and Andy Carroll is on the bench.
New West Brom signing Romelu Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea, will begin his Baggies career on the bench, with the midlands side opting for Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie to fill the striking berths in their 4-4-2.
