There are various reports that Dutch left-back/winger Alexander Buttner is moving from Vitesse to Manchester United, pending a medical which is supposed to take place Monday. Reports also have the fullback signing a 5-year contract with the Red Devils. The move would make sense, considering the need for depth on United's back line, especially on the outside.
Buttner is 23-years-old and trained with Ajax as a youth before joining Vitesse of the Dutch Eredivisie in 2008. In four seasons with the Vitas he's made 107 appearances, scoring 10 goals.
Early in July, Vitesse had agreed with Southampton for a transfer fee for Buttner but the deal fell apart according to the Daily Mail due to mystery third party believed to be demanding a share of the transfer fee
"However, this weekend the player informed Vitesse via his agent that a third party had a supplementary demand towards the club. Vitesse made it clear to the player that it would not comply with that demand, since it was applied in retrospect and Vitesse will not be pressurised."
Now, just over a month later, Buttner is again close to moving to England. Assuming there are no more snags and the medical goes smoothly, he could join the Red Devils in the next week. He should provide cover at the left-back spot for ageing French defender Patrice Evra who has struggled at time with injuries.
