Twenty one-year-old Belgian international midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has joined Werder Bremen from Chelsea on a season long loan.
Kevin de Bruyne has joined Werder Bremen on a year long loan from Chelsea. The loan will expire on June 30, 2012 with a buyout option. He will wear number 6.
Manager Thomas Schaaf told the Bremen website, "We are happy that we convinced Kevin on us. He has proved himself over the last few years with some strong performances and should continue to improve our game."
De Bruyne signed with Chelsea last January from Belgian side Genk, and he was loaned back for the remainder of the year. The midfielder finished the season with 8 goals and 10 assists. The 21 year old made almost 100 career appearances in the Belgian Jupiler League racking up a total of 16 goals and 34 assists.
The Belgian international will compete for playing time with Aaron Hunt, Eljero Elia, and Mehmet Ekici. Marko Marin's departure to Chelsea this summer leaves a spot on the field open, and Schaaf will have his choice of which player to fill that role.
