Hoffenheim have announced that they have signed Joselu from Real Madrid to a contract that will keep him at the German club until June 2016. The transfer fee has not been disclosed publicly, but it is believed to be around €6 million. There are reports out there of a buyback clause for Madrid. They can bring him back to the Bernabeu next summer for €7.5 million or in 2014 for €8 million.
Joselu, 22, only made one La Liga appearance and one Copa del Rey appearance for Real Madrid, but he managed to score a goal in both of them minutes after coming on the pitch. He spent all of his last two seasons playing for Real Madrid Castilla (The reserve side) in Segunda Division B (Spain's third division). He scored goals for fun in that league tallying 40 in 72 appearances. Last season they earned promotion to the Segunda Division.
His new manager Markus Babbel said, "Joselu has already shown his class at Real Madrid. He's also young and has a great deal of potential. He fits in well at Hoffenheim and with this team."
The Stuttgart-born Spaniard will be competing for minutes with newly signed Eren Derdiyok and Takashi Usami. Oh, yes, Ryan Babel is still with the club, too. So, it will be four guys competing for minutes.
