Manchester United hand a debut to Alexander Buttner, while Robin Van Persie, Antonio Valencia, and Shinji Kagawa are all on the bench.

Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez start for Manchester United as Robin Van Persie's injury keeps him out of the United starting XI and relegated to a role on the bench.

United have also handed a debut to Alexander Buttner, who replaces Patrice Evra in the Red Devils' lineup, a move that had been speculated in the wake of Evra's continued disappointing form. Meanwhile, Anders Lindegaard continues in goal, while veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs also surprisingly start, with Shinji Kagawa and Antonio Valencia also taking their place among the substitutes.

Meanwhile, Wigan opt for an unchanged 4-4-2 formation, with Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kona both starting up front, with James McArthur and James McCarthy in the centre of midfield.

Manchester United: Lindegaard, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Buttner, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Hernandez, Welbeck. Bench: De Gea, Evans, Valencia, RVP, Cleverley, Powell, Kagawa

Wigan Athletic: Al Habsi, Boyce, Caldwell, Figueroa, Ramis, Beausejour, McArthur, McCarthy, Maloney, Di Santo, Kone. Bench: Pollitt, Watson, Crusat, Jones, Gomez, Boselli, Miyaichi
