Liverpool Vs. Manchester United: Half-Time Score 0-0 As Shelvey Sees Red

The first half ends goalless as Liverpool dominate but waste their chances, then end up going in at half-time down to ten men.

Liverpool ended the half on a low note after dominating for most of the first 40 minutes after Jonjo Shelvey saw red for a tackle on Jonny Evans.

The midfielder lunged in for a 50-50 ball with a reckless two-footed tackle which caught Evans on the knee, and Mark Halsey was left with no alternative but to send him off.

It was a blow for the home side, as they had been dominant up until that point, with United unable to cope with their pressing game and Liverpool attacking the United goal at will. Chances for Liverpool were frequent, but often fell to the wasteful Suarez, with a string of attacks breaking down due to the Uruguayan dribbling into United defenders. Chances for the away side, in contrast, were few and far between - Ryan Giggs curled an early shot over the bar, and just after the sending off Kagawa came close to teeing up Robin van Persie, but even after the sending-off, Liverpool retained their control over the game.

United appeared to be struggling without the calming presence of Paul Scholes in midfield, and it would be no surprise were he to be introduced at half-time or shortly afterwards. Brendan Rogers will have a difficult task in reorganising his ten men to keep the inevitable onslaught out once United can get themselves organised.
