Arsenal left-back Andre Santos has been handed a driving ban after a court heart he was driving at more than double the speed limit last month.
Arsenal's Andre Santos was banned from driving for a year on Thursday at Hendon Magistrates Court.
The court heard that the left-back, who was arrested after a high-speed chase on August 17th, was travelling at speeds of up to 145mph - more than double the 70mph limit - as he attempted to evade police. The Brazilian attempted to escape officers on the M25 and A1 in Hertfordshire before finally being arrested close to Arsenal's training ground.
Santos pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and was banned from driving for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a £3,600 fine.
In a police statement, the defender claimed he was not aware he was being pursued by police and that he was driving quickly because he was late for training, asserting: "My music was on loud and I was not paying attention. I apologise to the police and for the trouble I've caused."
