Three is the magic number, as Siena come to the Capital looking for a third straight win, while Lazio hope to avoid a third successive defeat!
What a difference a week makes! Seven days ago, the Eagles were flying high and being touted as possible Scudetto contenders. Now, following back-to-back defeats, the Biancocelesti are one loss away from being written off as flops.
In stark contrast, Siena have hit a little bit of a purple patch and are coming into this game on the back of two fine wins against Inter and Bologna. The Tuscans have picked up eight points from their first five games, but their part in the betting probe has turned a possible sixth place standing into 18th. On the plus side, the club have wiped out their six-point penalty and now have something to build on.
Serie A's strikers have recently come up against the wall that is Gianluca Pegolo between the Siena sticks. Whomever Vladimir Petkovic chooses to lead the Lazio frontline had better bring his shooting boots. After Miroslav Klose was lauded for owning up to the goal that never was in midweek, Petkovic has since conceded that the German can't carry the full burden of goals on his shoulders. The Bosnian tactician is refusing to press the panic button, but is desperate not to see his side slip into their pre-season habits.
One man who could come back into the fold is Sergio Floccari. The forgotten fringe player was re-integrated into the Lazio setup with a runout in Wednesday's drubbing at the San Paolo and should Mauro Zarate remain in the naughty corner, could see action once more.
Last season's fixture ended in a 1-1 draw. Siena and Serse Cosmi would settle for a similar scoreline again.
