Mike Fucito is headed to the San Jose Earthquakes after being traded by the Portland Timbers for a second round pick. The Timbers now own the 34th pick in the draft, while the Earthquakes have first right of refusal on Fucito.
The Timbers' winter house cleaning continues with the exodus of Fucito, who they traded for last offseason. But Fucito made just three starts in 2012 and Caleb Porter has worked with Gavin Wilkinson to get rid of a big chunk of the team and make room for a host of new players.
San Jose adds another striker to the mix and adds to their depth as they prepare for a season that wil include the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in club history. That means more matches, and they will need more players for those extra matches so at the very least, the Quakes have bolstered their depth.
