Diego scored one and created another as Wolfsburg beat Stuttgart 2-0 on Saturday.

Wolfsburg won Dieter Hecking's first match in charge 2-0 over Stuttgart to move them nine points clear of 16th place Hoffenheim.

New boy Ivan Perisic was thrown right into the starting lineup by Hecking, and he was bright and lively early in the contest. He had the first real chance of the match, but he saw his shot blocked. Ivica Olic was next to challenge Sven Ulreich, but his shot was saved.

Christian Gentner and Shinji Okazaki brought good saves out of Wolfsburg's Diego Benaglio on either side of the halftime whistle. The Swiss goalkeeper was up to the challenge and kept the match scoreless.

Diego opened the scoring early in the second half. He dribbled a good ways up the pitch unchallenged before ripping a shot past Ulreich to make it 1-0.

The Brazilian turned provider on the next goal. Alexander Madlung headed in Diego's free kick in the 67th minute to make it 2-0.
