Malaga and Celta Vigo played to a rather uninspired 1-1 draw with Celta stealing a point late thanks to a goal from Augusto Fernández
Malaga failed to move back in to fourth place as Celta Vigo scored a late equalizer to force Manuel Pellegrini's side to settle for a single point.
After a mostly uneventful first half Malaga took the lead in the 38th minute on their first decent attacking foray of the match, pinning Celta back in their defensive third. After a scramble on the line that saw several attempts by Malaga and several blocks by Celta, Martin Demichelis tapped the ball in as he was basically standing on the goal line.
The second half started much like the first with neither side looking particularly dangerous or very inclined to attack. It took until the 76th minute for something to final happen and it was the visitors who found the equalizer.
The goal from basically nothing as Celta send a probing ball in the center of the Malaga box towards Álex López. The Malaga defenders successfully played the pass and cut off López but the ball trickled on the foot of Augusto Fernández who wasted no time sending a low ball through traffic and past Wilfredo Caballero.
It With the point Celta Vigo moves in to 17th place, two points clear of the relegation zone. Malaga remains in fifth and could lose more ground tomorrow if Real Betis can earn full points against Athletic Bilbao.
