Daniel Sturridge becomes the first major signing of the 2013 January transfer window, moving from Chelsea to Liverpool for a reported £12 million. The 23-year-old, who signed for Chelsea in 2009, will wear #15 for the Reds.
The striker began his senior career with Manchester City, where he made 21 appearances with the first team, scoring five goals. Sturridge then moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2009, and was used primarily as a substitute in his first season and a half with the club. He then was loaned to Bolton Wanderers in January 2011, where he promptly demonstrated his worth, scoring 8 goals in 11 appearances.
Sturridge returned to Chelsea for the 2011-2012 season, and, with the backing of Andrea Villas-Boas, received plenty of starts under the manager. After AVB's departure, Sturridge's appearances for Chelsea became more erratic. And with injuries frequently keeping him off the pitch this season, we haven't seen too much of the forward. But Liverpool, limited in their options up front, are willing to take a chance, and are crossing their fingers Sturridge stays healthy.
