Chievo Verona vs Parma, Final Score 1-1: Crociati rattled at the Bentegodi

Parma were lucky to escape the fierce Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi in Verona with a point, after suffering an unlikely 90 minute onslaught at the hands of Eugenio Corini's Chievo.

A second half goal from Alberto Paloschi -- haunting his former club -- cancelled out a fortuitous Parma lead, which came courtesy of Ishak Belfodil late in the first half. The Flying Donkeys were comfortably the better side throughout, and were unfortunate not to take the points.

The hosts started with intent, and forced a good save from Antonio Mirante as early as the fourth minute. Cyril Théréau was threaded through on goal in a quick counter, though his shot was excellently stopped by the Parma goalkeeper.

The Frenchman would prove to be a constant thorn in the visitors' side, and went close minutes later after he volleyed goalwards a cross from right wing-back Gennaro Sardo. Once again Mirante would prove to be a match for Théréau, as he was for everthing Chievo Verona threw his way in the opening 45.

Perhaps most impressive of all was the 29-year-old's acrobatic stop to prevent a Sardo cross finding the back of the net. His sliced cross swung spectacularly towards goal, and was tipped over by the backwards-diving Mirante as Chievo attacked like they had never attacked before.

Parma struggled to get out of their own half, and yet the gialloblu had the lead at the break. Threaded in by Nicola Sansone with just five minutes to go before half time, Algerian striker Ishak Belfodil slotted hom his fourth goal in his last five games.

The lead could have been doubled minutes after the restart, though Nicola Sansone, latching onto a loose Chievo backpass, was harried just enough for him to run the ball straight into the arms of Christian Puggioni.

Parma weren't in the ascendency for long, and Sardo should have equalised with a header from point-blank range, only for him to nod over the bar. Théréau forced another good save from Mirante with yet another header, though eventually the breakthrough came.

It was predictably Chievo's top scorer and ex-Parma starlet Alberto Paloschi who eventually headed beyond Mirante and into the net off a good cross from Théréau. A rare error from the crociati keeper saw him commit early, allowing Paloschi to beat him to the ball and effectively nod into an empty net.

Chievo's onslaught continued, and Marco Andreolli's effort from a corner saw Mirante make another excellent diving save, keeping the scores level. Parma struggled to create anything in the dying moments, before substitute Amauri drilled the ball towards the far post, narrowly missing the target and any Parma bodies in the box.
