Cristiano Ronaldo and Ángel Di María combined for four goals and two assist as Real Madrid relentlessly hammered Valencia in to submission
Valencia may have out shot Real Madrid and had more of the ball than them, but it didn't matter. Cristiano Ronaldo and Ángel Di María both had a brace as Los Blancos hammered Valenica 5-0 at the Mestalla.
Madrid opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Di Maria received an excellent through ball from Ronaldo on the counter attack. He wasted no time cutting the ball back to Gonzalo Higuaín who blasted a shot past Diego Alves. Ronaldo was as his creative best again in the 34th minute, helping to played a glorious give and go with Mesut Özil, before crossing the ball back across play to an unmarked Di Maria for an easy tap-in.
Less than two minutes later it was Ronaldo's turn to put the ball in the net rather than setting up his teammates. The Portuguese striker made a run at the Valencia defense, blew past a defender with a fancy step over to the left and fired a shot past Alves in the bottom corner, making it 3-0 to Madrid.
Five minutes later, Ronaldo scored his second of the match. Are you getting sensing an overall theme yet?
Di Maria started the play volleying a cross in to the box to Özil who flicked the ball right in to Ronaldo's path. Ronaldo smoothly tapped the ball in to the net making it 4-0. Four minutes later, Özil setup Di Maria who cleverly beat Alves as the Valencia fans began making their way towards the exit as the halftime whistle blew.
Madrid was kind enough to back off in the second half and not score any more goals...or maybe they got bored. Alright, they were still making an effort but the finishing just wasn't there in the second 45 minutes. Whatever the case, the match finished 5-0 and Valencia will likely want to forget about this one as quickly as possible.
