Aston Villa vs. Bradford City, 2013 League Cup semifinal: Preview and TV Schedule

Alex Livesey

Aston Villa will attempt to mount a comeback tonight as they take on Bradford City at Villa Park, with the Villans 3-1 down from the home leg.

Bradford City may have won a remarkable 3-1 victory in the home leg, but they now face an inevitable onslaught as they attempt to get out of Villa Park alive to seal a historic progression to Wembley.

The Bantams could be just 90 minutes away from completing a remarkable run to reach Wembley, with a final against either Chelsea or Swansea City up for grabs, and will look to defend their two-goal lead from the first leg.

Villa, meanwhile, will be determined to overturn the deficit. Manager Paul Lambert has spoken of the potential of a victory to turn around their poor form in the league, stating:" If we get through, the confidence will be great. The feeling around the club will be massive. It will be a great thing. It can definitely play a huge part in the season turning."

Since the away goals rule in the League Cup only applies after extra-time has been played, a 2-0 win will not be enough to progress in ordinary time for Aston Villa, although it would see them go through after 120 minutes.

Aston Villa injuries and suspensions

Out: Nathan Baker (hamstring). In doubt: Shay Given (hamstring), Fabian Delph (ankle).

Bradford City injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Stephen Darby (foot), James Hanson (toe), Will Atkinson (stomach)

Villa striker Andy Weimann will return to the side after suffering from an illness, although Shay Given and Fabian Delph will have to undergo late fitness tests to determine whether they are ready to return.

Bradford have no new injury problems, with Matt Duke, Rory McArdle and Gary Jones all ready to return, with Stephen Darby, James Hanson and Will Atkinson all potentially in the mix as well.
