Copa Libertadores gets underway on Tuesday, with four teams participating in the opening legs of their first round playoff matches. The group stage has already been drawn, and the winners of the six playoff ties will be dropped into pre-determined groups.
The real pick of the ties is one that gets underway on Wednesday, with LDU Quito playing host to Gremio. Both teams are former winners of the competition, and have routinely made deep runs in the knockout stages. LDU Quito lifted the trophy in 2008, while Gremio were runners-up to Boca Juniors in 2007.
Municipal Iquique and Club Leon will have the toughest draw of any of the teams in the playoff round. The winner of that tie drops into a group with Velez Sarsfield, Peñarol and Emelec, where they will be clear fourth favorites to advance. Leon brought in Nery Castillo and Rafael Marquez in the offseason with a view towards competing in multiple competitions, but the team is off to a poor start in the Liga MX Clausura
