AS Roma have confirmed that Mattia Destro, who underwent knee surgery on Saturday, will miss about eight weeks of action. The striker tore his left knee in the Coppa Italia win over Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Destro has made 18 appearances for Zdenek Zeman's giallorossi, notching 12 starts and scoring seven goals. The youngster has been a Coppa hero for Roma, scoring in the 3-0 victory over Atalanta and then grabbing the only goal in the win over Fiorentina. Destro scored the second in the first leg against Inter, giving his side the edge before the two teams meet again in April, by which time the hero should be healthy again.
With Destro out, Roma have even more reason to hope that Erik Lamela regains his goal-scoring form. The Argentine has 16 starts and 10 goals on the season, but has yet to score in 2013. His last came against AC Milan more than a month ago, when he scored a brace.
