Serie A transfer rumors: what to expect in the frantic final hours

Daniel Kopatsch

While many clubs have finished their business before the close of the transfer window, there are quite a few hot deals still to be made in Italy.

It's almost time for the transfer window to slam shut, leaving us all nice and warm until August rolls around. But there's still more than a few hours for sides to get in their last minute panic buys. Over in Serie A, there are quite a few clubs behaving like men at Christmastime: running out to the shops and grabbing whatever's close at hand, feeling it's good enough, and it just might bring a smile to the face of the recipient.

Here are the last-minute deals being bandied about on the peninsula:

AC Milan

Didn't the rossoneri get the best Christmas present of all, what with signing Mario Balotelli? That frees up Urby Emanuelson to make his way to Fulham

oh noes: Robinho is going to be awfully lonely.

AS Roma

With Mattia Destro out for two months, Roma are after Matej Vydra, owned by Udinese but on loan at Watford.

oh noes: There's not actually a credible source reporting this rumor. It's more likely Roma are secretly pursuing managerial options, such as Laurent Blanc.

With the Viola experiencing a sudden downturn of form, they're looking for a quick fix. Enter PSG midfielder Momo Sissoko, who they want on loan.

oh noes: Should Newcastle and Fiorentina meet in European competition, things could get confusing. Oh. Wait.

Relegation-fearing Genoa are begging Fiorentina for Mattia Cassani, who's just sitting around in Florence.

oh noes: Inter, Palermo and Samp will be very jealous.

Inter Milan

Moratti is jumping on the Balkan bandwagon, with reports suggesting midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic is on his way from Stuttgart, and Mateo Kovacic from Dinamo Zagreb.

oh noes: Liverpool and Valencia were reportedly after Kuzmanovic, while it's unlikely Zagreb will sell Kovacic.

The Old Lady are still trying to tempt Lisandro Lopez from Lyon.

oh noes: Nicolas Anelka's going to be awfully sulky over that.

Vladmir Petkovic is determined to weed out his wardrobe before hanging anything new in his closet, so next in line is Mauro Zarate, believed to be set for Dynamo Kiev.

oh noes: Well, anyone foolish enough to buy a Lazio Zarate kit probably deserves what they got

The partenopei are on the verge of signing Porto defender Rolando on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy come summer.

oh noes: There go QPR's hopes and dreams

It seems the fear of relegation have caused the rosanero to chase Kyle Lafferty, currently at Sion. But Palermo want the striker on loan, and Sion just want him to go away already.

oh noes: Does Pietro Lo Monaco have a fever or something? Lafferty isn't even close to being Argentine.

The relegation-fearing club are desperately knocking on doors, begging for a decent defender. It's quite possible they'll sign Matteo Contini before the window closes. They may also bring in Giuseppe Sculli.

oh noes: The delfini still need at least three other defenders if they want to avoid drowning in a flood of goals.

Samp aren't so much buying as bolting the doors before the desperate crowd rushes in.

oh noes: Milan will have to build a squad without Andrea Poli.

Siena's sponsors, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, have just lost a ton of money and won't be plastering their name across the robor kit anymore.

oh noes: It's tough to buy players when your credit card is maxed out and you're getting calls from debt collectors.

Francesco Guidolin shrugged his shoulders and admitted fatigue sometime last week. Supposedly, Udi's January business is done.

oh noes: All those imaginary clubs chasing Mehdi Benatia will have to walk away empty handed.

Atalanta, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Chievo Verona, Parma, Torino

Were wise and wrapped up their shopping ages ago. These clubs are now chilling, sipping grappa and laughing and everyone else hires private planes and makes plans to divert limousines.

oh noes: Of most concern is Cagliari, still periously close to the relegation zone, and having done nothing during this window save hold on to Radja Nainggolan.
