Everton have pulled out of a deal to sign Leroy Fer from FC Twente after talks to restructure the deal following a medical broke down.
Everton have pulled out of a deal to sign FC Twente's Leroy Fer after a medical revealed a problem with his knee.
The Dutch midfielder was set to move to Everton in a deal worth £8.6m, but a medical found that the player had issues with his knee, prompting the Merseyside club to attempt to restructure the deal, instead preferring to make payment based on apperances.
Yet it seems that the Dutch club were not prepared to accept Everton's demands and the deal has now been cancelled.
Everton Chief executive Robert Elstone said: "We were very excited at the prospect of Leroy coming to Goodison but unfortunately the transfer did not go smoothly there were some issues."
"I think our fans will understand that we had to put the club and the club's finances first. There are other options for us and we will work hard on them. It will not be for want of trying."
Everton will hope that they do not come to regret the decision, as Stoke City may have done when they infamously turned down the chance to sign Demba Ba after a medical revealed a similar problem.
