AS Roma vs. Chievo Verona: Preview and TV schedule

Paolo Bruno

Serie A table-toppers Roma can set a new league record with victory against basement club Chievo on Thursday.

AS Roma will have started the season better than any other side in Serie A history if they pick up a win on Thursday. It would mean they'd won every single one of their opening ten games of the campaign, leaving them in a commanding position at the top of the table. Given that they're facing bottom side Chievo Verona, they really ought to smash the record in style.

Despite the solid appointment of Giuseppe Sannino in the summer, the Flying Donkeys have had a disastrously bad start to the campaign. They've picked up just four points from their opening nine games, and are currently enduring a five game losing streak. Despite stereotypically being one of Serie A's most stubborn sides, they've looked worryingly fragile.

For this match, Roma will be without striker Mattia Destro, defender Maicon and, most significantly, captain Francesco Totti. Winger Gervinho will have to pass a late fitness test if he's going to be involved. As for Chievo, they have midfielder Adrián Calello and veteran defender Boštjan Cesar unavailable through injury and suspension respectively.

AS Roma injuries and suspensions

Out: Mattia Destro, Francesco Totti (injured); Maicon (suspended). In doubt: Gervinho.

Chievo Verona injuries and suspensions

Out: Adrián Calello (injured); Boštjan Cesar (suspended). In doubt: None.
