Lionel Messi tears hamstring, out '6-8 weeks'

David Ramos

Barcelona have released the results of the tests run on Lionel Messi's left hamstring. And they're not good news for anyone.

It hasn't been a happy season for Lionel Messi, and now it's getting a lot worse. The Barcelona and Argentina star was pulled out of Sunday's match against Real Betis with an apparent hamstring problem, and, after running a series of tests, the club have now revealed the extent of the injury.

It's not good:

The Club’s medical services confirmed after tests this Monday morning that Leo Messi has a torn hamstring muscle in his left thigh and is expected to miss the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Messi's already missed four weeks to two other, unrelated knocks this season, and the 26-year-old has looked increasingly injury-prone over the past calendar year. And although there's been talk of him playing at a lower level recently, he's still been scoring at scorching rates, averaging a goal per game in the Champions League and La Liga so far. Going without him for almost two months is going to be a major challenge.
