England vs. Germany: Preview and TV schedule

Clive Brunskill

England host Germany in a friendly on Tuesday, looking to deliver a performance slightly less terrible than they did at home to Chile last week.

England will look to take advantage of a rotated German team in a Wembley friendly on Tuesday, and will hopefully make the game at least something of a contest by putting on a performance considerably better than the dreadful one which ensured defeat at home to Chile last week. While England were being embarrassed by Alexis Sánchez Germany were held to a 1-1 draw against Italy, and will make several changes to their starting 11 for this match.

Germany coach Joachim Löw will field several of his side's fringe players, with captain Philipp Lahm, his Bayern Munich teammate Manuel Neuer and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil among those left out alongside injured midfielder Sami Khedira. For England, Phil Jones is out with a groin strain, while Steven Gerrard and Rickie Lambert both face fitness tests before being declared fit.

Projected lineups

England: Joe Hart; Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker; Steven Gerrard, Tom Cleverley; Adam Lallana, Wayne Rooney, Andros Townsend; Daniel Sturridge.

Germany: Roman Weidenfeller; Marcell Jansen, Per Mertesacker, Benedikt Höwedes; Toni Kroos, Lars Bender; Marco Reus, Julian Draxler, Sidney Sam; Max Kruse.
