Alonso keeps things interesting

The Seattle Sounders won't be happy with their performance or the result they got at home on Saturday night, but they're not going into the second leg with no hope. Thanks to Osvaldo Alonso, they're down one goal, not two, to the Portland Timbers.

The goal came off a big deflection, so it wasn't exactly perfectly executed, but Alonso was in the perfect spot and his finish was a gorgeous one. Like he has many other times since joining the Sounders, Alonso has rescued something from a bad performance.

Nagbe makes it 2-0

Things are getting ugly at home for the Seattle Sounders, who are now facing a seriously tough task to get themselves back into their playoff tie against the Portland Timbers. Darlington Nagbe has fired the visitors 2-0 ahead at CenturyLink Field, finishing off a very nice passing move.

The Sounders have had most of the possession in this game, but haven't been able to create much of anything. This goal came after each team made a substitution, and they probably proved to be key in this one. Kalif Alhassan came on for Diego Valeri, who's nursing an injury, just minutes before this goal. That moved Nagbe inside from the right wing. Seattle completely re-arranged their formation before this, bringing on attacker Mauro Rosales for right back Zach Scott.

Johnson stuns Seattle

For the first time since the two teams both participated in USL-1, the United States' old second division, the Portland Timbers lead the Seattle Sounders in Seattle. Ryan Johnson is Portland's hero, firing his team ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute.

Jack Jewsbury provided the assist with a cross, and Johnson's near post run was perfect. The goal came on Portland's first real chance of the game, after Seattle had dominated for the opening 15 minutes. Seattle were already the aggressors, but they might have to turn up the pressure a bit, now that they're down a goal at home.
