There was a time where Shalrie Joseph was the most complete midfielder in MLS. His ability to completely run the midfield from every perspective earned the Revs a couple of finals appearances, as well as a lot of USMNT caps for really average players. Now, Shalrie Joseph is basically just a big tall guy who is good at beating the crap out of people, so naturally Sigi Schmid has opted to start him at striker for the Seattle Sounders.
The Portland Timbers' lineup is a bit less odd. They're going with their regular team, hoping that the team that won in Seattle will be able to duplicate that result at home.
