Southampton vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Preview and TV schedule

Paul Gilham

Tim Sherwood takes charge of his first Premier League game as Tottenham Hotspur interim manager on Saturday, with Spurs visiting stuttering Southampton.

Post-André Villas-Boas life starts in earnest for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, as interim boss Tim Sherwood takes charge of his first Premier League game. Spurs could leapfrog Newcastle United into sixth place by bettering their result this weekend -- and will be hoping their midweek cup defeat to struggling West Ham isn't a sign of things to come.

Southampton should prove to be stern opponents, though Mauricio Pochettino's side have stuttered after a brilliant start to the season. They're now down in ninth place and haven't won in the league in their last five matches, though would move level on points with Spurs with a victory.

The Saints' biggest absentee this weekend will be midfielder Victor Wanyama, though goalkeepers Artur Boruc and Kelvin Davis are also among those sidelined. Full-backs Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Fox both face late fitness tests. Spurs too have a string of absentees, with the most notable being Jan Vertonghen, Andros Townsend and Paulinho. Sandro is an early doubt with a calf problem.

Southampton injuries and suspensions

Out: Guly do Prado (knee), Artur Boruc (hand), Kelvin Davis (back), Victor Wanyama (calf). In doubt: Nathaniel Clyne (hamstring), Daniel Fox (hamstring).

Tottenham Hotspur injuries and suspensions

Out: Harry Kane (back), Younes Kaboul (thigh), Jan Vertonghen (ankle), Andros Townsend (hamstring), Paulinho (suspended). In doubt: Sandro (calf).
