The move has been in the works for the last week, but the Seattle Sounders have made it official today. Fulham, struggling down in the bottom three places of the Premier League, have received a lovely Christmas present: Clint Dempsey will return on a two-month loan.
Dempsey spent five years with Fulham, scoring 50 goals in the process. His most successful season was his final one at Craven Cottage, when he scored 23 goals in all competitions, including three in Europa League play. The USMNT captain then moved on to Tottenham Hotspur for a season before signing with the Sounders.
But with the World Cup coming up, Dempsey wants to be sure he's fully fit and in-form -- thus, a move to England, where he'll be able to play competitive matches before rejoining the Sounders in time for the start of the season. Dempsey is eligible to play for Fulham starting Jan. 1, so he might play that very day, when the Cottagers host West Ham United.
