Both West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion have surprisingly struggled so far this season; deep in the relegation mire after achieving solid mid-table finishes last campaign. Sam Allardyce's Hammers have picked up just one point in their last five league games and find themselves in the bottom three -- and at risk of losing touch with safety.
West Brom, meanwhile, are still managerless after sacking Steve Clarke, and now haven't won in their last eight league matches. They're three points higher than the Hammers in the table, though could quickly be sucked into the bottom three if results go against them. Rumours that Real Betis coach Pepe Mel will be appointed as Clarke's replacement are gathering pace, but it's unlikely he'll be on the touchline for this one.
West Ham still have a frustratingly lengthy injury list, with Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Winston Reid the most significant names on it. West Brom only have one early absentee with Victor Anichebe still sidelined with a groin problem, though Nicolas Anelka has been left out of the last couple of squads by caretaker boss Keith Downing, and could miss out again.
