Torino vs Lazio, final score 1-0: Toothless Lazio suffer the pain of another defeat

Valerio Pennicino

Lazio are still searching for a first away victory of the season after going down 1-0 at Torino.

Lazio did everything but score. The Biancocelesti could find no way past a resolute Granata side, who took advantage of a defensive lapse early in the first half to net the only goal of the game.

Serious questions will now be asked about Vladimir Petkovic after his side's winless domestic run stretched to six games. Toro's fourth victory of the season sees them leapfrog Lazio in the league standings.

Danilo D'Ambrosio was a late replacement for Omar El Kaddouri who was injured in the warm-up. Cesare Bovo was also unavailable for the home side.

Miroslav Klose still hadn't recovered from injury, so he missed the trip along with Stefan Radu and Alvaro Gonzalez. Bruno Pereirinha and Andre Dias were given rare starts in the Lazio defence. Michael Ciani - who was sent off in this fixture last season dropped to the bench.

The visitors enjoyed the early possesssion and put their hosts under some pressure. Lorik Cana sent a free header against the post, but play was called back for pushing in the box.

Toro started to find their feet. Migjen Basha got in front of Hernanes to head over from Alexander Farnerud, before Lazio gifted their hosts an opening goal on 19 minutes. Alessio Cerci floated a free kick into the danger area, and non-existent marking by Brayan Perea left D'Ambrosio all alone in the box. A miskick by the defender actually turned into an assist for Kamil Glik to fire the ball underneath Federico Marchetti.

Lazio wasted a chance to equalise almost instantly. Senad Lulic ghosted into the box past D'Ambrosio to send a header over. D'Ambrosio was much more dangerous going forwards and nearly crafted a second goal. His ball found Cerci in the box, but the frontman prodded a shot on his weaker right foot and Marchetti easily beat it away.

Six minutes before the break, Lucas Biglia tested Daniele Padelli from distance, forcing the shot stopper into a smart one handed stop.

Glik just missed slicing the ball into his own net in stoppage time as Candreva flashed a low ball across the box. Luckily for the Pole, the ball deflected wide.

Keita Balde was introduced at the start of the second half and a revitalised Lazio immediately put Torino onto the backfoot. Padelli had to tip over a Lulic cross turned shot, then watched a Hernanes effort zip inches over the bar.

Every Torino player was back as Lazio camped out in the opposing half. Glik's hesitation allowed Sergio Floccari to curl high and wide.

Toro looked to Cerci to relieve the pressure, The frontman failed to test Marchetti, who easily gathered a low shot from distance at the near post. Cerci then spurned a golden chance to double Torino's lead on 73 minutes. Ogenyi Onazi was dispossessed to leave Toro with a two-on-one advantage. Rather than square the ball to Farnerud, Cerci ignored his teammate to go it alone, only to scuff a disappointing shot wide.

Lazio poured forward. Perea stretched out a leg and narrowly missed getting on the end of an Antonio Candreva drive. Keita then turned over an Ederson cross from close range as the ball bounced up just as the youngster made contact. Lulic cut inside the box to blaze one final chance over in stoppage time. Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, Lazio couldn't make it count.
